FAQ FOR CUSTOMERS INTERESTED IN PURCHASING

·  DOES EACH BOX CONTAIN THE SAME COMPANIES?
Not always. Because of the different number of items we receive from each company, not all boxes contain the same items. Although, we do try our best to include as many companies as possible in each box. Some companies send in 20 items and others send in 100 so of course you might not get a company that you were really wanting to try if they don't send in enough. Email your favorite companies and encourage them them to send in enough for everyone!

·  DO ALL BOXES HAVE THE SAME AMOUNT OF ITEMS?
Yes. It is my goal to make sure that every box has the same amount of items. That is why we don't put the boxes on sale until the businesses get their items to me. Then I can establish how many samples per box there will be. Some months the boxes will only have 17 items and some months the boxes will have much more! It all depends on the supply that I get from our wonderful Indies! I do not have control over the what arrives you may find that one month the boxes have larger items and then the next month the box contains smaller more expensive items. It's just a luck of the draw!

·  WHAT AGE IS THE LITTLE BLACK BOX BEST FOR?
The Little Black Box is wonderful for teen girls and women of all ages! I've been asked if the boxes are geared towards men and I'd have to say no. Of course most women have men, children, and pets in their lives so sometimes you might get something in your box that is geared toward those too.

·  HOW MUCH IS THE LITTLE BLACK BOX?
The black boxes cost 23 dollars (USPS Priority Mail Shipping included) each month except for our holiday box which costs a little more depending on the response we get from our Indies. Let me also stress that I never know what is going to arrive each month. One month we'll have a month where we get unique items like scarves, or high end necklaces and then the next month we won't. Sometimes I hear from people who happen to order their first box during an extra great month thinking that all the months are just like that and I hate to say that they are not. I attempt to treat each month equally and do the best that I can to make sure that wealth is spread evenly but it really is up to what I'm sent in. For instance one month the content of the boxes may be around 75 dollars each and then the next month the contents might only be worth 30. It's just one of those things! I value each and every single participant and hope that you will too!

·  CAN I BUY MORE THAN ONE BOX AND SHIP TO DIFFERENT ADDRESSES?
Absolutely! I do ask that if you order a box to be shipped to a different address that you make it a seperate transaction and change the shipping address in PayPal at checkout to reflect the address you want it shipped to rather then emailing me to change the address. The day the boxes go on sale is rather hectic and I sometimes don't get a chance to check email until it's too late and both boxes are out the door to your address instead of the gift address.

·  IS SHIPPING INCLUDED?
Yes. Shipping is included with all Little Black Box orders. All boxes are sent USPS priority mail.

·  DO YOU SHIP TO CANADA OR INTERNATIONALLY?
NO! We no longer ship our boxes outside of the US. As sad as it may be we were spending too much time on boxes headed that way and they were costing more to send there then projected. We also can not purchase tracking and boxes were getting lost. I feel that it's just much easier to keep the boxes in the US to avoid a longer turn around time. We do however, encourage Canadian businesses to participate if they want to get into the US market. However, our sister site The Little Purple box DOES ship internationally. Check out their site and contact Angi if you want to contribute to their boxes or even purchase one!



·  WHAT IS IN EACH MONTH'S BOX?
Each month includes items from various companies. These items will change monthly as we are constantly finding new businesses to join us.

·  CAN I RETURN THE BOX IF I DO NOT LIKE IT?
No, unfortunately we do not take returns. We have gotten many compliments on the boxes and sincerely hope you will enjoy yours.

·  CAN I CHOOSE THE COMPANIES I WANT IN MY BOX?
No. We pre-make these boxes before they go on sale, so we can ship them out to you as quick as possible. Each box will have a variety of different items.

·  WILL I KNOW WHICH COMPANIES ARE PARTICIPATING EACH MONTH?
Yes. A list with links is posted each month as their boxes arrive here.

·  WHAT IF MY BOX ENDS UP LOST IN THE MAIL?
If your box ends up lost in the mail we DO NOT offer refunds of any kind. We will send you the next month's box free of charge and pay for shipping again on it.

·  WHAT SHIPPING METHODS DO YOU USE?
We ship all packages USPS priority with click and ship so that you may track your order and determine when it should arrive.



FAQ FOR RETAILERS INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING

·  HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE?
Participating is easy! Just sign up on our handy dandy new sign up page and we'll take care of the rest! and let me You also need to have a banner ad available to email me that is 125px by 125px (a perfect square) in either .gif or .jpeg format. This is a requirement!!! The banner ad will be displayed on the site the month that you are participating for free. Contact Lili by clicking on the banner below and she can create something wonderful for you. Banners are $3.50 and she can do anything! Simply create an Etsy account if you don't have one and click "contact" on her profile page. Let her know what you need and she'll whip it up for you!


You will find that most ways of advertising online require some sort of banner ad. Not only will you need one for this site but you'll find that you'll be asked by other websites for a variety of different website sizes. Another requirement is that you must take a digital photo of your samples before they are mailed and email it to me for use on the site.

·  WHAT IF I SIGN UP AND CAN NO LONGER FULFILL MY OBLIGATION?
No worries! Things come up! Please.. PLEASE just email and let me know. No hard feelings! I understand! I promise! However if you sign up for a month and need to cancel but then sign up for the next month and then cancel again I will need to terminate our black box relationship. I only hold spots for so many businesses each month and when you hold spots over and over again and keep backing out you are taking the spot of someone who could have nabbed your spot and followed through with participating. Again, one cancellation ok! Two cancellations in a row, not good. Hope you understand.

·  HOW CAN I BE A SPONSOR?
Sponsorship is easy! First you must have a banner that is 468px by 60px in either .gif or .jpeg format. Then you have two options. We understand that not everyone can supply us with a ton of promo items. Your craft is tough work! We ask that everyone interested in sponsoring pay a $30 dollar refundable deposit for their site. Then if you supply us with at least 150 samples for the month you participate we refund your deposit. If not then we use it as the cost of advertising and the fee remains with the site and is used for site maintenance as well as the cost of advertising our own site. Just let us know what you want to do when you email for a sponsorship spot. The sponsorship spot has no competition and is the only banner on the front page of the site allowing thousands of people a month to see their banner.

·  DOES IT COST?
No! The only thing it costs is the amount it costs to create your samples. Think of the cost of your product as the price you would pay for advertising. The items that you contribute will be sent to 150+ people a month. A 150+ people that would have never heard of your company until you donated the item for your advertising purposes. We sell out every single month! The more contributers the more boxes! We currently have over 8000 people on our mailing list. The reason they signed up is because they want to learn about businesses like yours. We aren't messing around! You aren't just blindly sending your samples to me and hoping that they end up in the hands of people that want them. They want to make purchases from business like yours!

·  DO WE GET PAID TO PARTICIPATE?
No, you do not get anything in return from donating your items.The money that the site gets from the sale of the boxes is left with the site as it covers the price of shipping your items out to our customers and also also for my time. I provide the customer base for you. If your items "WOW" the box buyers you are guaranteed sales! We also purchase advertising in major magazines during select months.

·  WHAT IF I CAN'T SEND YOU ITEMS OF MY WORK?
For some businesses it's nearly impossible to create some sort of actual product to send in for the boxes. Either your art is too expensive to mass create or the item is too large. We have found in the pass the businesses usually send in postcards, flyers, or business cards to go in the boxes then. We don't have a problem with you sending in these however we don't count these as actual submissions for the box and you will not be asked to place a banner on our site if you go this route. We have heard time and time again that the box buyers do NOT want these counted as a promo in their box and would like them only used as extras and we listened.

·  WHAT TYPES OF STUFF DO YOUR CUSTOMERS LIKE IN THEIR BOXES?
We are open to all sorts of things! Previously there has been: candles, melts, votives, scrubs, soaps, lotions, perfumes, stationery, food, dog treats, teas, coffees, bath bombs, bath melts, cosmetics, hair care, gift certificates, coupon codes, magnets, pens, key chains, buttons, hair clips, necklaces, earrings, rings, bracelets, photography, bookmarks. You should send in whatever you think personally suits your business and also what you think will blow the consumer away! Afterall, this is all about YOUR advertising needs. What do you think will make people want to order from you again? Don't forget coupon codes and your business card! Each promo item should come with a business card and for an extra added push you should give the buyer 10-15% off their first order.

·  WHEN IS MY BOX OF SAMPLES DUE TO YOU?
If you sign up and do not feel that you can follow through with your commitment please let me know. Businesses that sign up and have no contact with me and their samples do not show up will not be allowed to participate again. Due dates are as follows:

·  HOW MANY SAMPLES SHOULD I SEND IN?
How many samples you send in all really depends on what you can afford. We send out 150 boxes a month currently. The more samples you send in the more boxes they go into. That means more potential business for you as well. Other then that there's no minimum on the amount of promo items you need to send to us, but again please keep in mind that the more you send in the better the response!

·  WHO PURCHASES YOUR BOXES?
The Little Black Box audience is mostly women ages 25-60 from a middle income background. I get asked all the time if the people buying the boxes are other businesses or actually people who are buying the boxes to then make purchases, and I can assure you that 90% of the boxes do go to actual people who trust that I will make them aware of the hippest handmade business on the net. 5% go to the media and 5% to other businesses who purchase the boxes to check out what we do to.

·  HOW SHOULD THE SAMPLE BE PACKAGED?
Sometimes we have a theme going, but most of the time we don't. Usually you should package your sample like you would if you were giving it to a customer or as a gift. Some people really like to go out of of their way to give their samples some extra flare! When the customers open their box you want them to go straight for your sample. You want to make them want to order your item in a full size because whatever it is that you did was amazing! Most contributers include coupon codes, business cards and such. I strongly suggest a coupon code of 15% or higher as people LOVE discounts and it creates word of mouth buzz. 

·  ARE THERE RULES FOR MY PACKAGING?
Yes! If you are sending in bath and body or food all ingredients MUST be labeled properly. This is a legit online business and we only deal with online businesses that hold quality and care for their customers to the highest value. If packages show up here and are not labeled, leaking, not finished, broken, or in any way not appealing they will NOT go in the box. Not only am I advertising for your business but I am advertising for the other businesses that are in the box with you. Please make sure that everything is sealed properly and labeled correctly! **This include items for dogs or cats!!!**
